i thought i’d write a poem about good news
on my weekly newsletter
news with letters and a letter with the news
there’s enough of the negative stuff
don’t you think so ?
every day it assaults us
more than enough
to last a lifetime
how can you build a life or a culture
with only bad news ??
as if the monotony of every day’s
bad news informs us of our place
in the scheme of things
and we buckle right down and get to it
bad news keeps us grounded
so we don’t fly off all over the place
and become anarchists
consider all the bad news you consume
in a day indigestion irregular
concerned and bothered
by issues that have nothing to do with you
the air and the oceans both wait patiently
for something important to do
like wave and blow (ocean and air)
we wait for somebody
to give us the weather report
here is the weather report
it’s cloudy somewhere and it’s raining
somewhere and somewhere it’s dusk
and somewhere it’s dark
and somewhere it’s dawn
the first light peeking in
through someone’s window
while they lie there waking up
slowly the first moment
they realize they are awake
that’s good news
the rest of the day can go to heck
atleast it started out good
had the promise of being good
and maybe tomorrow it will be
really good
that’s the good news
that there is good news
atleast in the morning at first light
atleast later in the day in the cafe
with the first hit
first contact first smile
continuing good news
a child sighting
climbing the stairs to the next level
and makes it
good news
the child is delighted
and turns around to look at the mom
waiting in line for her latte
love zooms between the mom and child
i feel it whoosh
sunlight pours in from the roof
which is made out of glass
what a good idea
make your roof out of glass so the light can pour through
and bestow upon all the patrons
the true light of heaven
for certainly that is good news
the holy sun shining down upon us
imagine the cold dark world of pluto
or even mars
no no we are blessed with plenty
of light and rain as well
falls from the very same sky
the trees think this is good news
but they don’t have
newspapers or anything
they just drink of the water
and share the good news in their own way
any good news will do
any good news you find along the way
share it and embellish it
shine it up a little
put it in a poem
or in a thank you note
send it to someone
who would least expect it
start a conversation
share with a friend
receive regular notifications
