lonely elderly people

7

I keep hearing about lonely elderly people. Living alone in a house with no spouse or kids. Just holding on. It’s in the news. In the Netherlands they have a special check out line at the grocery store that goes slow so the elderly lonely people can have someone to talk to. It was on Facebook.

Can you imagine that? To arrive at your old age and discover yourself all alone? I can. That’s how my life has been lately. Old age can hit hard. It doesn’t necessarily follow a schedule.

Even my cat, Kybo, is sad because she has no playmates, no one to mother. She’s a great mom, was born for it, but her only baby died after a few days and her playmate, Tee Tah, got hit by a truck. Betos, the replacement cat, is aloof and won’t even talk to Kybo. Just goes for the food. Actually Betos has some issues neurologically, kind of OCD if a cat can be. She will have spasms, almost like epileptic seizures but it’s just a flea biting her butt. It’s really freaky, she will lose control of her bladder and pee all over everything.

I don’t do that yet. But I do find it pretty depressing at times to be trapped in my house during the great Texas Heat Wave and not even be able to ride my bike. Actually I was going to go out tonight and see if I could ride, if my wrist was strong enough. Didn’t do that either.

A society that discards it’s elderly people because they’re not a useful economic unit anymore is a very sick society indeed. May this entire house of cards fall and crumble, general chaos and disorder come. I believe we’re due.

But a society that has children, always has hope. Who knows what the 6 year olds of today will bring to the world in 20 or 30 years. Unfathomable. May it be good. May it be rich in the human qualities, not so much all about the money. May it find human qualities in the technology. May creativity rise high and be more admired than destructivity. It could happen.

May they find all the old grandpas and grandmas and get them out and make friends. Make them part of their life. Listen to their stories and share their own.

Kids and old people go together. Kids are deprived too. Because their parents are chasing the money. Connect them with the kids, perfect fit.

Lonely elderly people can relate to kids because they’re not a part of the system either. Neither one are. The kids not yet, the lonely elderly people already have been.

There is a tribe in Africa where when a child is born they are brought to the grandparents and grow up in their company. This tribe believes that the child has a message for the old ones - where I am coming from, you are going to. And that the elderly old people have a message for the child - all the wisdom about the world that they have accumulated. Two poles of a battery.

Start this car. Stop standing around. Connect some elderly old people to the circuit. Don’t let them just wilt away. Above ground death. Give them a puppy, somebody to love unconditionally. That’s all they want.

thanks to strfkr for the great song and artwork / this worked for me
